Anita Kurmann, 38, is killed on her bicycle in the Back Bay.

An endocrine surgeon at Beth Israel Hospital, she is stopped at an intersection on Massachusetts Avenue when she is run over by a tractor-trailer truck turning right onto Beacon Street. Kurmann was planning to return to her native Switzerland soon, after accepting a position at a university in Bern as a faculty member and scientist.
